Award Shows – Are all about Publicity

LISTEN TO THIS PODCAST

Award show season is just around the corner…and this means red carpet parties, glamorous outfits, fine jewelry, and lots and lots of fake smiles. YUP, I just said “fake”. I highly doubt these music stars enjoy going to all the award shows…so why do they do it? For the hope of increased sales of course.

This is a great opportunity for performers to get in front of their audience and impress them with their latest greatest songs. And does it work? After the Country Music Awards in November 2009

–DARIUS RUCKER sold over 23,000 copies of his album, “Learn to Live” . . . which was an 83% sales jump from the week before.

–KEITH URBAN sold 11,000 units of his album, “Defying Gravity” which was a 43% increase.

–And LADY ANTEBELLUM got a huge boost after winning the CMA Vocal Group of the Year. They moved over 45,000 copies of their debut album . . . a hefty 130% increase. In fact, it was their biggest sales week ever.

Proving if you have what your audience wants, getting yourself in the media works…and it works well. BUT just remember when the opportunity arises, be prepared to perform like a rock star! (Or Country star if you prefer)
