21 seems old to me

We discussed this story on the air this morning…

CALIFORNIA RAISES SMOKING AGE TO 21: California yesterday (May 4th) became the second state to raise the smoking age to 21 from 18, following the lead of Hawaii, which did it last year. The legislation signed into law by Democratic Governor Jerry Brown imposes the same age restrictions on electronic cigarettes, despite opposition from the tobacco industry, which said it would harm smokers who use e-cigarettes as an alternative to traditional smoking, and complaints from those who say if men and women can enlist in the military and vote at age 18, they should be allowed to decide if they want to smoke or not. As in Hawaii, California lawmakers, who strongly supported raising the smoking age, were motivated in part by the popularity of e-cigarettes among young people.

As a Canadian 21 seems way to old to be making a decision about if you can drink or smoke or not. Now I have to mention I am not a smoker and I am not saying anyone should be. IN fact with all we know I can't believe anyone starts smoking anymore. BUT the point I'm confused about is…you can go to war, you can get married, you have a child, but you can't buy a beer.

Made for a fun radio topic today!
What do you think? Is 21 too old?
