1. Next Week- You could be Featured HERE!

I don’t want to sound like a broken record, so listen to someone else tell you to be a resource.  IN today’s newsletter, I have an interview with Radio Talk Show Producer Whitney Deane.  If you want to be promoted for free to millions of people, you have to learn what the media is looking for. Understand that and you’ll be a success.

Whitney shares a wealth of information to help you, but let’s focus on just one of her tidbits: If you really want to be the featured expert you need to attach yourself to a current news story.

You can grab this news story from anywhere…CNN, CBC, CNBC, or your local paper…and then mention this in your pitch to the media.

Here’s a story that hit last week:

BANKS TOOK OVER RECORD NUMBER OF FORECLOSED HOMES LAST MONTH. Banks took over a record number of foreclosed homes last month, real estate data company, RealtyTrac, is reporting today (September 16th), as lenders worked through a backlog of troubled mortgages. Banks foreclosed on 95,364 properties in August, beating the May 2010 record by 2 percent. The repossessions increased 3 percent in the month and 25 percent in the year. RealtyTrac foresees a record 1.2 million repossessions this year, up from just under 1 million last year. By comparison, the company said banks took over just some 100,000 homes in 2005, before the housing bust.

This is where you come in. Could you be my guest to talk about this news story? Are you a realtor?  Bankruptcy lawyer? Motivational Guru?

Put your special twist on this topic and send it to me. I will feature the winning expert next week in this newsletter.

Don’t hold back…just let me know what you do and give me a rough idea of a topic…and I’ll interview you and share it with thousands of people.

2. Featured Media Release of the Week

The good, the bad, and the ugly – every week my radio show receives a plethora of Media releases for me to choose from.  Some get booked, some get deleted, and some get featured right here! Check this out. Is it good, bad or ugly?

Maybe the weirdest (and funniest) musician you’ll ever interview is

“Weird Paul” Petroskey.

“Weird Paul” has written more than 600 songs.  Many of them last only a minute. One lasts 4 seconds.  Petroskey and his band once played 13 songs in three minutes and 26 seconds.

His songs are about random, everyday things — with titles like “Wine Coolers,” “I Got Drunk At Chuck E. Cheese,” “Steve Austin Ripped Off Bigfoot’s Arm,”  “Pay For Your Tacos Safely And Securely [about using PayPal at Taco Bell]”, and the fan favorite, “You’re a Jerk.”

Weird Paul Petroskey is a wild guy.  His songs are even wilder. (Don’t do this interview live — just in case of explicit lyrics –pre-record)

This is GOOD! Why? It looks like a fun interview.  People are sick of being serious – we all need a great laugh.  And Weird Paul might be just the guy to deliver it.  Now I also see something that says this might grab listeners ears…did you catch it too?

The warning says Don’t interview him live…in case of explicit lyrics…I know a ton of radio hosts that will interview him just so they can bleep him out.  Because like it or not, sex sells!  Oh, this has nothing to do with sex, but crude or rude comes in a close second as long as it is somewhat funny. And by the way this media release is written, I think it will be a pretty fun interview.

3. Producer Interview

Every month I will bring you producer-interviews about what producers and radio hosts in 2010 are looking for in a guest.

Meet Whitney Deane.

I’ve watched Whitney’s career move forward at lighting speed. We worked together for a year—when she was my co-host on the Wayne and Jayne show. She then moved into producing one of the biggest talk shows in Canada based out of Calgary, Alberta.  Lately she has added fill-in talk host to her resume…

In this interview we discuss:

  • How she likes to be pitched
  • What makes a topic stand out
  • Mistakes people make that get them thrown off the air, and
  • The easiest time to book interviews.

4 Book Experts don’t get old

Have you written a book?  Have you ever watched someone write a book? It is a process that consumes your life…until the final copy makes it into the bookstore.  But what happens months later when the publisher says it’s old news and they don’t want to promote you anymore?

It’s Heartbreaking. But by no means is your six-month-old book old.  The success of your book lies on YOUR shoulders.  You are truly the only person who will have your eyes open and constantly scouring the horizon for opportunities.

I want to make you a very special offer RIGHT NOW.  If you’ve published a book within the last 5 years, I want to hear about it.  It doesn’t matter if it was self-published or traditionally published, fiction or non-fiction…I want to hear about it. Let’s see where we can open some doors to allow you to get your message out and make your book new again.

I am always looking for experts. And if you have ever published a book…then you are an expert!

Just email me at: wayne@onairpublicity.com I look forward to hearing about you and your book.

Well that’s it for another edition of the On-Air Newsletter,

Another Happy Client –

Wayne, I knew I was ready for this interview today – the co-host and sales manager at the station got on the phone with me and said, “I have to tell you that the media page and media release you sent to us was brilliant – no one has ever sent something like that before.”

So Wayne – thank you for helping me make such a positive impression.

I am most grateful to you for helping me to feel prepared for whatever comes up.

Georgia

Thanks Georgia!  I know you are always great on the air!
