1. The Greatest Advice to Making Contact

How many emails are too many?

If you don’t hear back when trying to connect with the media, it’s OK to contact them again.  In fact, because we in media get deluged with pitches, often that is the first weed-out opportunity we use…yes, we simply don’t reply!  You would be shocked at how many people never contact us again.  (But It’s A Secret Tool…And It Works.)

I’ve had people phone me, and leave a message (pitching a story idea), and then I ACCIDENTALLY hit delete and they are gone forever.  So sometimes it truly IS an accident and I Would Have booked them…but I never hear back…

The greatest advice to making contact is to use ALL your resources…not just once, but multiple times.  Email, Phone, and yes, even Fax. (The exception is if they reply saying they are NOT interested—then DON’T keep pitching…wait until you have another topic.)

And finally, NEVER ever just randomly add the media to your newsletter or mailing list.  This is a sure fire way to be banned for life!
