1. Bonita Yoder wins the Challenge!

In Last week’s newsletter, I challenged you to create a topic around this story:

BANKS TOOK OVER RECORD NUMBER OF FORECLOSED HOMES LAST MONTH. Banks foreclosed on 95,364 properties in August, beating the May 2010 record by 2 percent. The repossessions increased 3 percent in the month and 25 percent in the year. RealtyTrac foresees a record 1.2 million repossessions this year, up from just under 1 million last year. By comparison, the company said banks took over just some 100,000 homes in 2005, before the housing bust.

2. Good, Bad or Ugly – “Tight Little Butt”

These 3 words landed a radio producer in hot water this week. A listener, named Bob, called in to the morning-drive show and asked the producer about Massachusetts GOP state treasurer candidate Karyn E. Polito’s appearance. “Is she hot?” He asked.

“I think she’s hot,” the radio host said. “She’s tiny. She’s short. She’s got a banging little body on her. Facial wise, I give her about a seven. Body wise, I give her about an eight-and-a-half. Tight little butt. I endorse Karyn Polito.”

The National Organization for Women said, “That is one of the most sexist, outrageous things I have ever heard in my life.”

But the controversy created news. And in some ways it’s like a dream come true for Ms. Polito…because she couldn’t PAY for the publicity this story has brought her!  And, I bet, with all the attention this comment has brought, the others running for treasure started sweating this week…what if Polito wins BECAUSE of it!

Sometimes the craziest things can swing a vote…and these 3 little words might have done it.  What do you think? Good Bad or Ugly?  From a Publicity perspective GOOD gets my vote.

3. Motivational Interview

How do you become a superstar?

You study and learn from others.

At the beginning of their career, when Country Music band Lady Antebellum finished their opening sets for superstars like Keith Urban or Tim McGraw, instead of celebrating and partying they would get in the audience and watch and learn from those superstars. Those were free lessons on entertaining, confidence, lighting, and show production.

Likewise, back in the early 90’s when I started in radio that was how I learned. I’d record all the great radio show hosts I could find and then dissect what made them great.

This week I want to share an interview I did with Alecia Huck.  You may not know her name, but after this interview I hope you become a fan.

She is a feature on my 52 Motivational Interviews.
